8th Avenue Sidewalk Greening

Beds are filled with bark mulch and new permeable pavers have been added.

Beds are filled with bark mulch, plantings, and trees, while large expanses of concrete have been replaced with permeable pavers.

Our principal, Lisa Gelfand, took the lead to improve the street on her own block with this Sidewalk Greening Project on 8th Avenue. She assembled an enthusiastic group of neighbors who reached agreement to tend the trees and plantings. Lisa & I drew up the plans pro bono and the group obtained a matching grant from the city to help fund the work.

The project has attracted some attention from neighborhood bloggers:

as well as a flickr photo set.
